Vietnam attracted nearly $13.82 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first four months of 2025, marking a 39.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Finance’s Foreign Investment Agency. In the first quarter alone, total registered FDI reached almost $10.98 billion, up 34.7% year-on-year, with a notable surge in additional capital for existing projects and a sharp rise in capital contributions and share purchases by foreign investors.
Singapore maintained its position as Vietnam’s largest investor in ASEAN and the second-largest globally, following South Korea. As of January 2025, Singaporean investors had 3,951 active projects in Vietnam, with a cumulative value of $84.14 billion, primarily in manufacturing, real estate, and energy sectors. Singaporean investments now span 18 of Vietnam’s 21 economic sectors and are present in 54 out of 63 provinces and cities.
The Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network continues to be a flagship of bilateral cooperation, now encompassing 18 industrial parks across 13 provinces and employing over 300,000 workers. The next phase, VSIP 2.0, will focus on integrating sustainable energy solutions and advanced manufacturing technologies, aligning with Vietnam’s strategy for green growth and digital transformation.
The first quarter also saw 401 existing projects register for capital adjustment, with nearly $5.16 billion in additional funding-a 44.8% increase and almost five times higher than the same period last year. However, new project investment totaled $4.33 billion, a 31.5% decline year-on-year, attributed to the absence of large-scale new projects. Disbursed FDI in January–March reached $4.96 billion, up 7.2% from the previous year.
Vietnam’s robust FDI inflows are underpinned by its upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Singapore, which emphasizes sustainable economic cooperation, innovation, and green development. Both governments have pledged to expand collaboration in emerging sectors such as clean energy, semiconductor manufacturing, and digital transformation.
